What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) — including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

With Google alone getting more than 4 billion searches a day, it’s the largest site on the internet by miles. We are in the golden age of technology. With unlimited information literally available in the palms of out hands we wouldn’t know where to start looking without search engines, they are the gatekeepers of the internet.

Following search engine’s guidelines when building a site will optimize it so it can be better indexed by those sites and display higher on their list of results and more broadly with searches. This is what SEO mainly is. Optimizing your site to gain higher visibility which means more clicks and more interaction.

When you use Google Ads (PPC) you are paying for your ads to show on Google’s search results. They are always at the top of the page ahead of regular ranked pages, but they are clearly marked with an “AD” right next to them, and the minute you stop paying Google, the minute your ads stop showing.

We call pages ranked without the ad network organic because they are grown by you, you earn them by building a good website, following SEO guidelines, and putting out good content. People know this and quite often skip past all the ads because they understand the most qualified sites are indexed right below. You own these rankings, they don’t just suddenly disappear. They are yours because you have earned them.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) delivers higher sustainability than the google Ads network because as we said before, it does not slide out of the rankings due to failure of payment. Only inactivity or poor content could cause it to drop in rankings.

Google Ads is a great way to kick-start your website. There’s no better way to bring visitors to your site out of the gate than the Ads network, and no better way to give it the jump-start it needs. If you build your site with great a SEO background, as visitors start to pile in your ranking in the search index will rise. As it does your reliance on PPC will decrease and you will start to see more organic visitors. Your bid amounts will drop since you won’t need to bid as high to receive good Ad placement. You may  get to a point where you may decide to stop Ad placement in general and rely on your on your organic ranking to drive traffic, costing you nothing.

Let’s Talk SEO

There are countless sites out there with SEO tips, and search engines like Google will provide you with hundreds of pages of documentation. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about you could easily search SEO on Google or some other search engine, but you will get drowned in documentation. For a brief overview, here are some basic guidelines.

  • Including keywords that  will strike match results in search entries all over your website.
    • Make some of those keywords “headers” before text blocks, and bolding them in those text blocks to let search engines know they are extra important.
  • Using structured data such as “Json” level coding so google can look for and comprehend what your page is about before it is even read.
  • Robots. No not R2D2. Robots.txt files that talk to the search engine.
  • XML sitemaps
  • Filling out the ‘alt text’ meta descriptions in images with your focus keyword.
  • Compressing your images to improve speed.
  • Utilizing tools like Google Analytics to track and optimize pages and data.
  • Descriptive slugs and URLs.
  • Including keywords in those slugs and URLs.
  • Linking internal pages to each other, and using “CTA’s” or “Call To Action’s”. 
  • Getting external websites to link to your website.
    • Highly important and often overlooked because it isn’t something you build on the site, but networking you do outside of it to get other websites to link to you. Google will see you links on other sites it crawls
  • Producing good content!
